The Lansing Business Park redevelopment at 401 North Verlinden Ave. is moving forward with the support of a nearly $19 million Site Readiness Grant from the State of Michigan.
This investment will fund the evaluation, remediation, and preparation of the former Fisher Body/Plant 6 site, laying the groundwork for future business development opportunities. By transforming this long-vacant industrial property, Lansing is creating space for new investment, job creation, and long-term economic growth that will benefit the entire community.

The Plant6/Fisher Body Site is a former GM car manufacturing plant. Durant Motor Works was first constructed on the site over 100 years ago, in 1921. General Motors purchased the site in 1935 and began its Fisher Body Division. The plant continued operating until its closure in 2005. The structure was demolished in 2008-2009 and brought under RACER Trust following GM’s bankruptcy.
The site's preparation facilitates the Lansing Economic Development Corporation and the development team to attract future occupants.
The site is currently zoned IND-1-Suburban Industrial, per the Form-Based Zoning Code approved by the City Council on March 8, 2021.
The official name of the redevelopment site is Lansing Business Park. It helps market the property to attract a variety of future occupants.
The key stakeholders include the city residents, relevant neighborhood associations, the City of Lansing, BWL, Northpoint Development (the developer), RACER Trust, Lansing Economic Development Corporation, and Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
